I've listened to your feedback. Locked myself in a room for a week. Lived like a trool with a Mac and basic food rations to keep me ticking over. The result? Version 1.2 of Extra! Extra! It is a huge release. There's so much packed into it that I probably should have called it version 2.

Here are the new features:

- As well as viewing the newspaper front page, you can now also browse each newspaper website from within the app. Great for getting the full story!

- Added new locate feature which visually presents over 800 papers to you within a world map view

- Also, a new Nearby list tells you which papers are nearby at any given time. Great for when you travel!

- Papers are now presented in full screen when viewed in landscape.

- Even if a paper does not publish today, you will now be shown the most recently published paper (within the past 5 days)

- Startup loading time has been cut in half

- Improvements and tweaks to improve overall performance and look and feel

I am very pleased to present Extra! Extra! version 1.1 which is a free update for existing users.

Here are some of the improvements in this update:

• New 'Random' dice button
  

Because Extra! Extra! contains so many papers from around the globe (over 800), I added a dice button, which, when pressed, will scroll you to a randomly chosen paper and open it for you to read.

• Favorites Re-ordering

You can now order your favorites just the way you want them. Just press the 'Edit' button and drag and drop them as you like!

• About Screen with F.A.Q

The new info button will lead you to the 'About' screen which also contains an online 'Frequently Asked Questions' section. I will be adding to this as I get more questions from my users

• Bug Fixes

There are some bugs which have been squashed in this version.

Look out for the next version (1.2) coming along in a couple of weeks. This will bring even more features including a new map view, and much better 'latest paper' viewing (the last published paper will almost always be displayed).

Extra! Extra! had welcomed mention in this weeks Irish Sundays Business Post in an article by Adrian Weckler about iPhone development in Ireland and the launch of apps.ie

Apps.ie is a site created to showcase iPhone and mobile apps developed in Ireland or with an Irish context. The intention is not just to market apps, but also to evangelise the incredible momentum building amongst developers of mobile applications in Ireland.
Irish companies have taken advantage of the immense opportunities to create and market mobile software.

The App Store opened for business in July 2008, and has already seen developers submit over 75,000 mobile applications. To date, over 1.8 billion apps have been downloaded by users around the world. With the help of Apps.ie, users can now easily discover Irish-made and Irish-centric applications.

Apps.ie also provides a way for Irish businesses to source local talent to develop iPhone applications to be sold on the App Store, or to be used in-house. More and more companies are turning to mobile applications to enhance their products & services, as well as provide a new, unique form of product advertising.



Apps.ie is the brainchild of some of the members of X-Cake, a loose grouping of iPhone and mobile software developers in Ireland and Northern Ireland. The site is intended to put out the message that this tiny island is a force to be reckoned with in this huge emerging market.
